Today we were supposed to meet at 9:00 for a Helecopter trip to Milford Sound and a picnic lunch among the peaks. But the weather is iffy. We had breakfast and the company called to say they anticipate clearing in the afternoon so figure about 1:00 for a pickup. We will see.
While we waited for the weather to determine the time or if we would do the helicopter tour we decided to take a walk / hike along the lake. Following a path that took us by the jetty and an old boat, it took us through some forested parts and through some meadows.
While walking, about ½ hour we got a call from the helicopter company saying they would pick us up at 12:15. We had an hour, so we turned around and headed back to the lodge and then our room to prepare. We returned to the lodge to wait for pickup. There were two other couples there also waiting for a helicopter pickup. I thought we would all be together, but no, they went together for a shorter trip. I was expecting a car to pick us up to take us to the heliport, so I was surprised when the helicopters landed on the lodge grounds, first to pick up the other four, and then a second to pick us up!
Our piolet’s name was Dave. Our first stop was by a glacier where we had a late picnic lunch. Smoked meats, charcutiers, cheeses, fruit and bread. And of course, sparkling wine!
After lunch, we took off for sites among the craggy mountains and a landing on Madagascar beach. This was characterized by waves crashing among the rocks and sand flies!
We took off for a trip through the fiords and up to Milford Sound. We next landed up high in the mountains by a lake. We were visited by a beautiful Kea Parrot. The parrot is about 18 inches high. Having once been hunted to near extinction, it is uncommon, so we were extremely fortunate to have one visit with us. It walked around then took a look at the helicopter before flying off.
We next landed at a site overlooking the north end of the lake where we could see our lodge.

Wonderful pictures. Enjoy every minute!!!!
