Days 57 – 59 May 26 – 28, 2025 Spicers Peak Lodge

May 26, 2025 - Travel to Spicers Peak Lodge

We got an early flight to Brisbane, where we were met by Mike an expat from California, for the drive to Spicers Peak Lodge. The drive was 2 and a half hours through beautiful countryside.  We turned off the main road to a country lane, some paved and some not. It was a 20 minute drive from here up to the lodge. We passed many pastures with cows foraging in the green grass. The lodge, as the name would imply, is at the top of the mountains with fabulous views.

We were greeted by Machala who informed us of the amenities available, of which Cathy already made an appointment for a massage tomorrow. We were then driven the half mile down to our accommodation, a separate “house”, bedroom, dining area, kitchenette and sitting area. With a hot tub and a view of the valley below.

We took advantage of the privacy and the hot tub for a quick dunk.  Then ready for dinner. We had intended to walk up to the lodge, but after the sunset it was dark and not having any reference, we decided to call for a car to pick us up.

As ususal, dinner was fabulous!

MAy 27, 2025 - Spicers Peak Lodge

I am getting the feeling after our stay at Southern Ocean Lodge where we had to walk a quarter of a mile to our suite, and here where it is a half mile walk between the lodge and our accommodation, that our TA, Mitzi, thinks we need the exercise!

Anyway, it was a beautiful morning, and we decided to walk up to the lodge for breakfast. It was sunny and breezy, so the walk was great. We just had to avoid the cows and the cow pies.

We had started to have breakfast outside on the patio, but the wind picked up and soon the clouds rolled in, and the weather turned pretty bad. So aside from Cathy’s message we did not do much but relax and catch up on some reading.

May 28, 2025 - touring the southern rim

Today, after breakfast, we joined Tim for a tour of the surrounding areas. Beautiful vistas of the valley and the farms. We stopped at a park for a hike to a lookout. On the way back two gents sitting at a table shushed us and pointed out a wallaby just by their table. They had been throwing apple pieces to her. You could tell it was a her by the extended pouch. But we did not see a Joey.

We continued to various lookouts over farms and small towns. A beautiful country.
