March 8, 2024 – South Georgia – Salisbury Plain & Possession Bay

As I write this, I know that some of our friends have been to these or similar places. I hope it brings back good memories, and your not jealous of our good weather (so far). For others maybe it might spur the desire or maybe just enjoy our adventures. Whatever, I am happy to share and bring you all along with us.

The morning was an early zodiac cruise by Salisbury Plain. Here there were King Penguins on the beach and bobbing though the waters all around. They swam up to, around and under our zodiac. There were also many fur seal pups and various sea birds.

The afternoon was incredible. We landed at Possession Bay where there was a HUGE colony of King Penguins along with many fur seal pups and a few female elephant seals. While we tried to maintain our distance from the animals, it was hard in some cases as we almost walked among them. At one point one of the seal pups must have thought I was Dad, or Mom, as he rushed towards me, only to realize his mistake and turn around and run back into the tusset grasses. Avian Flu has hit the island and there are signs of it as we walked along the path to the penguin colony. Signs of the circle of life.

  1. Thank you so much for sharing. I was about to complain about the missing Penguins, but here they are. Amazing fotos, amazing nature, amazing atmosphere.
