Day 10 – August 21st – Traveling to Skye

Leaving Inverness, we headed to the Isle of Skye.  Along the way we made a couple of stops. First was just for a photo of Loch Ness. We did not see Nessie, but we will be returning and I am certain I will find her.

We next stopped where Allan wanted to show us the old bridge at Inver Moriston. Built in the first years of the 19th century as part of a plan to improve Highland communication.

Then it was on to Glenfinnan. Here is the viaduct that was used as the pathway to Hogwarts in the Harry Potter movies. There is a steam train that runs the route every couple of hours, so we waited for the Hogwarts express.

Across the road by the shore is a monument to Bonnie Prince Charlie. It was here that he first landed from France to raise his army to reclaim the thrown for his father.

From here it was on to Skye. We took the ferry across and arrived at Kinloch Lodge. This was originally built as a farmhouse in 1676 and later converted to a hunting lodge. It has been in the Macdonald family for generations.

When we got to our room we were surprised by a gift of champagne from our travel group.  They know us!
