Up to now the weather has been pretty consistent, that is mostly cloudy and sometimes drizzly. The clouds were always low and touching the mountain tops. But this morning was different, the sun was shining brightly and the clouds, what there were of them were high in the blue sky. This was perfect weather for the planned excursions today.
But before we reached our main destination, we stopped for a brief hike and view of the Falls of Foyers. We first headed down to the lower falls and on our return took the other path to the upper falls. Having had little rain recently the falls were not that impressive for the volume of water flowing, but still for the height it was quite something.
We then headed to a private pier on Loch Ness where we were met by our hosts Diane and Simon who were to take us on a cruise down the Loch on their beautiful boat. We headed down the loch, Scotland’s longest, taking in the sunshine and the views. We cruised for about an hour and a half.
Along the way, looking for the famous Loch Ness Monster. Of course we did spot Nessie. Did anyone doubt we would?
We eventually made our way to the pier at the foot of Urquhart Castle. Here are the remains of a storied castle dating from the 13th to the 16th centuries. The castle was destroyed by crown forces to keep it from Jacobite hands.
Tonight we have plans to eat at the hotel in their formal dining room with a 5 course tasting menu. Dress was semi formal, i.e. jacket for men, but no need for a tie. Cathy looked fabulous in her black and gold blouse. Dinner was very good.
