Day 9 – April 8, 2025 – Transit to Otahuna Lodge

Up early to pack for the next leg of our trip. Breakfast then meeting our driver Sue for a 5-hour drive north.

It was raining as we left, but we noticed that there was snow in the mountains! You could see a line where the snow ended, and the rain began below!

We stopped along the way first at a Morai sculpture that was dedicated to travelers and to admire the view behind with the mountains.

We continued on, and eventually stopped at a road side convivence stop and also stopped by an historic church.

Then onward, but before we arrived at our destination, we had one more stop. A little shop of various products made from Merino wool. Cathy purchased a scarf, well actually she purchased the yarn, a blend of merino and alpaca, and will have to make the scarf!

We continued on our way to arrive at Otahuna Lodge, outside of Christchurch. This is a late 19th century mansion and grounds that have been converted to a lodge. For our first night, we are the only guests! Though they do have local in for the fixed menu dinner. After being shown around we settled in, then, since we were going to dine in the formal dining room, we dressed for dinner! We met with the guest services resident for cocktails and canapés. Then we went in for dinner, which was superb.  Hope Carrie enjoys the pictures.
